Duties and Responsibilities

To sustainably meet societal nutritional needs, comprehensive short, medium, and long-term plans are developed ensuring affordable, culturally suitable, safe, and quality food availability at all times. Coordination ensures integration of food and nutrition issues into agricultural policies, strategies, and programs, supporting capacity-building across various levels. Policy formulation and strategy development foster systematic agriculture, implementing and supervising initiatives nationwide.

Innovative policy ideas drive behavioral and attitudinal changes towards sustainable food practices, integrating educational institutions. Diversified diets for farmers, pastoralists, and semi-pastoralists are promoted and monitored based on local production capacities. Research identifies underutilized nutritious foods, addressing malnutrition effectively. National surveys inform dietary interventions, while technologies for food waste reduction and safety improvement are disseminated and evaluated.

Behavior change communication enhances nutrition among farmers and semi-pastoralists, aligning with food-based agriculture strategies. Structural organizations are established to manage agricultural operations based on national food and nutrition policies. Infrastructure for food-based agriculture demonstrations is developed, integrating new technologies and enforcing food safety standards.Monitoring and reporting on the sector's performance ensure effective implementation of food and nutrition security strategies, fostering collaboration with stakeholders and advancing Ethiopia's food system roadmap.
